Well attended and well received in '07, the Asphalt Institute Conference on the Essentials of Asphalt Paving and Maintenance returns for the 2008 National Pavement Expo in Nashville, Tennessee, January 30 - February 2.

This one-day training conference on January 31, taught by Asphalt Institute engineers and staff, highlights the fundamentals and "best practices" for producing high-quality, long-lasting asphalt pavements.

Basic information will be provided on asphalt materials, paving and maintenance. It will serve to prepare NPE seminar and workshop attendees to better understand the more specialized topical training offered in other sessions. Topics covered include:

• Materials - asphalt binders and emulsions, aggregates, and asphalt mixtures
• Construction practices - mix properties, placement, compaction, quality control
• Maintenance techniques - patching, crack sealing, and surface treatments
• Practical "troubleshooting" guidelines - for paving and pavement maintenance

Attendees will have time for discussion with the presenters, and will receive certificates of Professional Development Hours (PDHs) earned following each session.
