While decarbonizing the built environment has long captured the attention of Silicon Valley, they have recently started focusing on the foundational material itself: cement. The increased attention on low-carbon cement comes as the Portland Cement Association is working to meet the goals set out in its Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality—carbon neutrality across the entire cement-concrete-construction chain by 2050.

Crucially, Silicon Valley’s interest shows the benefit of collaboration across the entire chain, with end users stating carbon neutrality as a goal in new construction. Editor Jonathan Kozlowski speaks with Rick Bohan, PCA’s Vice President of Sustainability about what’s happening and the potential impact in the industry.

Digging Deeper is a podcast series highlighting various aspects of the construction industry, including the equipment, people, companies and associations making it all happen. Click here to access more episodes.
