Kiewit Honored as One of the Best Places to Work in Canada

Vancouver, BC (April 12, 2011) — In a special national report released today, one of the largest and most respected construction, engineering and mining companies in Canada, Kiewit, is also being recognized as one of the nation's best places to work.

"It's an honor to be recognized as one of the best workplaces in Canada," said Bruce Grewcock, president and CEO of Kiewit. "It's especially significant to us because a large part of our selection was based on feedback from our people. At Kiewit, our people make the difference. Their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence make our company what it is."

With its roots dating back to 1884, the employee-owned company operates through a network of offices in Canada, the United States, and abroad. The company established itself in Canada in the early 1940s, and continues to build upon its commitment to being a local Canadian contractor, with extensive experience in every Province. Kiewit offers construction and engineering services in a variety of markets including transportation, water/wastewater, heavy civil, power, oil, gas and chemical, building and mining. In addition to transportation, heavy civil, industrial and mining projects, Kiewit's Canadian portfolio includes designing and building waste-to-energy, hydroelectric and co-generation plants, along with related infrastructure. With 2010 revenues of almost $10 billion, Kiewit's workforce includes approximately 10,300 salaried and hourly staff along with more than 14,400 craft workers.

"Best Workplaces in Canada" is complied by Great Place to Work Institute Canada. The competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third comes from an in-depth review of the organization's culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective, and an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work: creditability, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie. This year's list received more than 230 nominations and about 44,000 employees participated in the 2011 "Best Workplaces in Canada" survey.
