Dynapac Compactasphalt Lays Two Asphalt Mats Simultaneously

Commerce City, CO - Dynapac debuted its Compactasphalt road paving technology during its Conexpo-Con/Agg press conference Tuesday. The technology combines both the binder and wearing courses simultaneously, in one single paving operation.

The core of this process is a Dynapac DF145CS paver with an added Dynapac CM2500 module so that two material hoppers and two screeds are simultaneously in use. The first screed applies the highly-compacted binder course. The second screed lays the wearing course - "hot on hot" - directly behind the first. The initial compaction is carried out by a roller with a low linear load.

The funnel-shaped 31-ton front hopper contains the binder material which is designed for uniform emptying without segregation. The 17-ton upper hopper, holds the wearing course material.

Considered unique to the CM2500 module is its drive system. Powered by a Deutz TCD2013 engine, the drive system is located in front of the paver allowing the drive system to act as a counterweight for optimized balance.

To carry the module, the DF145CS paver is built with various modifications and reinforcements and special control units. The DF145CS can be used with the module for Compactasphalt paving, and without the module for conventional road paving. Several pavers can share the same module, so it is possible to alternate between Compactasphalt and conventional paving on each machine to increase paving options.

For conventional paving, screeds with gas heating can be used for working widths up to 44 feet. With Compactasphalt methods, working widths of up to 25 feet are achievable. A patented excenter adjustment lever is designed to enable the screed to be set quickly to the top, binder or base course.

Use of the Dynapac Compactasphalt road paving technology in Germany has shown reduced construction times of up to 50% and the prolonged durability of the wearing course of up to 25 years. These results have been said to reduce governmental budgets and also reduce Co2 emissions since the need for milling and repaving is reduced during the life cycle of the road, compared with the conventional paving method.

For contractors in the United States, a Compactasphalt machine will be available this summer, says Shawn Cheney, vice president with Dynapac USA.

In addition to its Compactasphalt, Dynapac officially debuted its F1000T (tracked) and F1000W (wheeled) asphalt pavers are built to handle extreme conditions in remote locations. Constructed with heavy-welded frame construction, the F1000 series are 10-foot-wide pavers. The high-performance outboard auger drive and high-capacity slat conveyor system are designed to eliminate center-line segregation.

Two new compact cold planers offer a patented moldboard for less cleaning in shallow cuts and a parallelogram axle for better traction and less wear on the tire edge. The PL500TD deep-cut model offers up to an 8-inch deep cut.

Dynapac's new articulated compact tandem rollers are designed for asphalt compaction in tight spaces, such as streets and pavements in urban areas. The CC1100, CC1200 and CC1300 models are available in either a dual steel vibratory drum configuration or in a combi version featuring one vibratory drum and four rubber rear tires.
