Alexandria, Virginia - The International Road Federation (IRF) recognized the winners of the 2010 Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) Competition at the 10th Annual IRF Awards Luncheon on January 25 in Washington, DC. Eleven projects from 6 different countries around the world were each honored for leading the way in excellence in a respective category of the road industry.
The IRF GRAA program is a worldwide competition to identify and honor excellence, innovation, and exceptional achievement in 12 vital road and transport sector categories. The program elicits information on successful projects from leading industry organizations, draws attention to the winning projects, and provides examples of best practices and latest technologies.
"Since 2000, IRF has used the Annual Awards Luncheon to recognize companies, organizations, industry professionals and students for their tremendous work and leadership in the road industry", said Brian Harris, chairman of the International Road Federation-Washington (IRF-Washington). "As nations around the world face similar issues and problems in establishing, maintaining, and improving safe road networks, it becomes immensely important for industry professionals to share and learn from the best practices of others".
The winners of the 2010 GRAA Competition are:
Advocacy Category: Laboratorio Nacional de Materiales y Modelos Estructurales (LanammeUCR) for their project, Contributions of LanammeUCR to Road Infrastructure Improvements in Costa Rica.
Construction Methodology Category: Barrier Systems / Utah DOT for their project, 3500 South, Utah Arterials Project.
Design Category: ARUP / Hong Kong Highway Department for their project, Route 8, Stonecutters Bridge, Hong Kong.
Environmental Mitigation Category: Colorado DOT / J.F. Sato & Associates for their project, Berthoud Pass Mountain Access Project.
Maintenance Management Category: The Louis Berger Group / USAID for their project, Afghanistan Operations & Maintenance Program.
Program Management Category: Concesionaria IIRSA Norte S.A. for their project,IIRSA Norte, Integrating Engineering and Conservation (Peru).
Research Category: Eurovia Research Center for their project, Low-Temperature Mastic Asphalts VIASPHALT BT®.
Safety Category: Mississippi DOT / Mississippi MED-COM for their project, The Mississippi msTraffic/MED-COM Project.
Technology, Equipment and Manufacturing Category: 3M Traffic Safety Systems Division for their project, 3M™ Diamond Grade™ DG3 Reflective Sheeting.
