NRMCA Technical Short Course Travels to Atlanta

Course emphasizes nationally-accepted standard procedures and practices.

SILVER SPRING, MD - The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association's (NRMCA) most popular and longstanding education and training class travels to the Southeast in February when the Technical Short Course arrives in Atlanta from February 7-11. Known simply throughout the ready mix industry as "The Short Course," this nationally-recognized 5-day program features four days of intensive training on all things concrete with the last day set aside for a certification exam. The course emphasizes nationally-accepted standard procedures and practices by referencing ACI and ASTM documents. It is held twice a year - in Maryland each fall and at a regional location in the U.S. each winter.

Since 1964, more than 4,000 industry personnel have participated in the NRMCA Concrete Technologist Training and Certification program, learning the fundamentals of concrete, aggregates and concrete mixture materials from Association experts and noted guest speakers. Taking and successfully completing the Short Course has often served as the first step toward earning additional NRMCA and other industry designations, including NRMCA Concrete Technologist, Level 2; NRMCA Concrete Technologist, Level 3; ACI Grade I Field Testing Technician and ACI Flatwork Technician. While similar courses address some of what's discussed in the Short Course, no other course is as well recognized, popular and supported by ready mix producers that consistently send many of their newest employees to either Maryland in the fall or to each year's designated U.S. location during a winter month.

"The knowledge gained during the week serves as a basis for long and rewarding careers within the ready mixed concrete industry," said NRMCA Senior Vice President of Engineering Colin Lobo. "Many current senior-level managers and CEOs of ready mix companies have taken the course, remember its benefits and make sure the next generation of professionals within their companies does the same."
