Ford F-150 EcoBoost V6 Takes on V8s at Baja

UPDATE 11/19/2010: Both trucks still running strong at 6:45 am (PST). Live vicariously with PickupTrucks.com's updates.

Professional desert racers Mike McCarthy and Randy Merritt (Mongo Racing) are each racing a Ford F-150 EcoBoost V6 truck in the SCORE International Baja 1000, which starts today in Ensenada, Mexico. They are introducing a turbo six-cylinder gasoline pickup to the Baja 1000, entering in the newly created Stock Engine class.

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is direct-injected twin-turbo technology for the half-ton F-150 pickup. It’s Ford’s effort to improved fuel economy without sacrificing performance. In the 2011 F-150, the V6 EcoBoost is rated at 365 hp (at 5,000 rpm) and 420 lbs-ft of torque (at 2,500 rpm) with a diesel-like torque curve. Ninety percent of peak power is available from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm.

PickupTrucks.com is on the ground in Mexico and will be providing updates on both trucks as they compete over the next 24 hours.
