VALLEY FORGE, PA - Demonstrating its commitment to innovation and sustainability, CertainTeed Corporation is launching a company-branded Quick Response (QR) code mobile smartphone app to simplify how architects, contractors, distributors and consumers get information about the company's products. The first building products manufacturer to offer a branded QR Reader mobile app, CertainTeed will showcase its QR code capabilities at the Greenbuild Expo in Chicago, Nov. 17-19, 2010 (Booth #1439).
The CertainTeed app instantly scans and reads a barcode, called a 2D QR code, when a user simply points a QR-enabled phone's camera at the code. Upon recognition of a QR code, the app rapidly processes and decodes the image, allowing users to view web sites, videos, and technical documentation; send text messages; make phone calls; and save contact information seamlessly without ever leaving the application. The application will also store a history of all QR codes that have been scanned on that mobile device.
"Providing innovative, eco-friendly solutions that improve efficiency is not just our business, it's our responsibility," says Eric Nilsson, vice president of corporate marketing at CertainTeed Corporation. "Looking ahead, QR codes can serve as a useful tool for our contractors in the field who typically only carry mobile devices. The technology will provide them, our distributors and consumers with quick and easy paperless access to installation manuals, FAQs, videos, safety sheets, technical information and additional resources via their smartphones."
The new technology will significantly reduce the amount of printed product materials typically distributed at a trade show. At Greenbuild, visitors to CertainTeed's booth will be able to scan codes to enter a drawing to win an iPad or to collect information on the company's newest, innovative products: EnerGen Photovoltaic Solar Roofing System; AirRenew - the first Gypsum board to clear the air; Ecophon Focus Ds ceiling panels; and Sustainable Insulation.
