SALINA, KS - Bergkamp Inc., based in Salina, KS, has doubled its office and manufacturing facilities to better serve its customers, shorten lead times and increase staff capabilities within the growing pavement preservation industry. With the completion of this two-phase expansion and a more than $2 million total investment, the company has nearly 80,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space and further enhanced its customer-driven approach to new equipment, parts and service. The new, modern facilities provide the company with the resources to better meet demand and support its slurry seal, micro surfacing and pothole patching customers.
"This first-class office and manufacturing facility expansion helps us continue to meet the rising demand for pavement preservation as it is becoming recognized more as an economical solution for many local, state and federal governments," said Scott Bergkamp, president of Bergkamp. "The investment of the new manufacturing facility and equipment helps us shorten lead times for parts and new equipment by streamlining the overall process. The entire expansion allows us to increase our engineering, manufacturing and sales staff as needed to maintain the personal service, support and quality that pavement preservation professionals require."
Last year, Bergkamp completed the first phase of the expansion by essentially doubling its office space to 4,150 square feet. Synchronized with the expansion, the company renovated the existing office space and integrated it into the new contemporary design. It features a bright, open floor plan with individual work areas, high ceilings and a comfortable atmosphere for Bergkamp’s staff and visiting customers. The company now has the office space available to add staff as needed to meet the growth of the pavement preservation industry.
The second phase of the expansion involved the construction of an additional manufacturing facility - adjacent to the original building - increasing Bergkamp’s manufacturing space to 75,000 square feet. The original facility now contains expanded assembly, paint and parts operations that accelerate the current replacement parts system and help service customers more efficiently. The new facility houses fabrication and welding with $250,000 in new equipment, including a CNC lathe and a second CNC mill. Bergkamp can now run more operations with the same manpower and maintain its quality standard.
"Overall, our customers can expect the same personal approach and high-quality equipment they have gotten from Bergkamp in the past," said Bergkamp. "This expansion provides us with the resources to continue to do the necessary things to shorten lead times, increase productivity, maintain quality and ensure that their needs are met now and in the future."
