Western Star Truck Sales, Inc. will host its third annual “Serious Trucks Challenge” at World of Concrete 2013 in Las Vegas. The Serious Trucks Challenge will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 through Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 in the Silver Lot (4) outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Participants will have the opportunity to compete in course challenges that simulate various construction applications for a chance to earn prizes, including a VIP trip to the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Michigan International Speedway.
The course will test drivers on parallel parking, s-curves, driver side parking, blind side parking, and backing up and stopping on a 42-foot long, steeply graded ramp — all designed to highlight each Western Star truck’s maneuverability through confined work spaces.
“We understand the construction segment’s needs for rugged equipment designed to handle the daily rigors on the jobsite,” said Ann Demitruk, director of marketing, Western Star. “Our ‘Serious Trucks Challenge’ gives customers a chance to experience Western Star’s rugged capabilities firsthand — and with some friendly competition.”
Western Star trucks available to test drive include:
- 4700SF Dump – Equipped with a 450 hp Detroit DD13 engine and Allison 4500 RDS transmission, the 4700 combines power and maneuverability in a compact, 110-inch BBC configuration.
- 4700SB Crane – Featuring a Cummins ISL 345 hp engine, Detroit 20,000 lb. front axle, driver-controlled traction differential and an Allison 3000RDS transmission, the 4700SB blends ruggedness and stability for optimal operation of the truck’s 26-ton Manitex boom.
- 4900SF Mixer – Equipped with a Detroit DD13 380 hp engine and an Allison 4700 RDS second reverse, the 4900 provides optimal engine braking and driver control during operation on steep grades. The 4900 features an 11 cubic-yard Kimble rear discharge mixer.
Western Star’s 6900XD chassis and 4800SB Twin Steer mixer are also scheduled to be on display.
Participants must have a current CDL to participate, and can register on location in the Silver Lot (4) at any time during World of Concrete show hours.
