The U.S. Embassy in Djibouti was one of the most significant construction projects of 2012, the Associated General Contractors of America announced. As a result, the project’s contractor, Quantico, Va.-based Caddell Construction Co., Inc., was one of 17 firms to receive the association’s Alliant Build America Award.

“These projects are shining examples of the construction industry at its finest, demonstrating tremendous skill, hard work and steadfast determination,” said Joseph H. Jarboe, the association’s president and senior vice president of Bethesda, Md.-based Clark Construction Group.

Caddell Construction completed construction of a new U.S. Embassy in Djibouti, a dangerous and turbulent working environment on time. The team delivered cutting-edge technology and met strict security protocols. Special attention to safety was required on this site, as the team encountered 120+ degree Fahrenheit temperatures, malaria and one of the highest concentrations of poisonous snakes in the world. The Caddell Construction team was recognized for its commitment to investing in the local community through the hiring and training of local workers.

The Alliant Build America Awards recognize the nation’s most significant construction projects. A panel of judges, representing all areas of construction, evaluated an impressive number of submissions this year, assessing each project’s complexity, use of innovative construction techniques and client satisfaction, among other criteria.
