The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) announced that its Voluntary Certification Program for Fusion-Bonded Epoxy Coating Applicator Plants is now available to international plants.

CRSI has provided certification of epoxy-coated reinforcing steel plants in North America since 1991. Since then, the certification program has been implemented in plants across North America. More than 20 U.S. Departments of Transportation and Canadian Ministries of Transportation require this certification from their suppliers.

The purpose of the certification program is to:

  • Help plants produce and deliver high-quality material
  • Improve plant operations
  • Recognize excellence
  • The program meets ASTM standard specifications for epoxy-coated reinforcing bar. Some components of CRSI’s program are even more stringent than ASTM requirements.

Areas evaluated in the program include:

  • Quality control policies and procedures
  • Handling and storage practices
  • Surface preparation
  • Curing
  • Holiday testing
  • Thickness measurement
  • Adhesion testing

The program continues to develop as methods become available to improve the performance and quality of epoxy-coated reinforcing steel. Visit the Certification link in CRSI's website for additional information.
