Road Institute 2013 - 2014 Course Schedule Announced

Volvo Construction Equipment training sessions provide industry professionals with hands-on learning opportunities in paving and compaction

Road Institute has released its 2013 – 2014 training schedule for road building industry professionals. The course curriculum offers two- to five-day training sessions beginning mid-October and continuing through May 2014, with training in Chambersburg, Pa., and Phoenix.

Road Institute sessions cover a wide variety of focus areas, including asphalt paving and compactor training, and are designed to help attendees garner the most from their equipment on every application, with a balance of classroom-style instruction and hands-on learning.

Instructors at the Road Institute bring nearly 50 years of combined teaching and field experience in a multitude of compaction and paving projects that span the globe.

“We work to combine the firsthand knowledge our instructors have received over the years to each course, but also, the insights and tips that thousands of students have shared with us and one another,” said Wade Turlington, director of product and sales education. “These combined lessons help us reach our goal of ensuring every attendee walks away with the ability to take a smarter approach to every application moving forward. The combined classroom-style and hands-on learning ensures students have an opportunity to apply the knowledge they gain, and address any questions that may arise as they apply new knowledge in the hands-on learning sessions.”

Courses are offered in asphalt paver and compactor operation maintenance and applications; screed operation; soil compaction operations; and automatic grade and slope control systems. Topics in each session range from daily and weekly maintenance to the operation and application of asphalt paving. Safety — a core value of Volvo — is a key component of the instruction in each course.

“I have nearly 20 years of paving and compacting experience, and I took away so many lessons that I’ve been able to apply on our jobs that have helped us operate more efficiently, more safely — and — have allowed us to deliver higher quality jobs,” 2013 Road Institute student Mike Escher, owner of M.C.E. Dirtworks, said. “The most valuable thing is that the instructors don’t speak from a podium, they have firsthand experience with the challenges that can come up on paving and compaction jobs — from traffic control to compacting cul-de-sacs — and they apply that to their instruction.”

Class size is limited for ideal instructor-to-student ratios and team learning. Tuition is $750 (USD) per student per three- to five-day course, or $500 (USD) for two-day seminars.

Registration and hotel information is available online at roadinstitute.com. A 20 percent discount will be given to those who register by Sept. 30 for all classes held October through December.
