The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) Foundation’s Project Management Academy (PMA) and P6 Scheduling Academy, designed to help both new and experienced transportation construction industry professionals better manage their firm’s projects, will take place back-to-back during the second week of April.
The highly-acclaimed PMA, held April 7-9, is built around an acknowledged and highly successful adult learning model of instruction supported by peer-to-peer knowledge sharing. It offers both tools and critical thinking skills in these core subjects:
- Planning & Scheduling: Brigham Young University Professor Jay Newitt,author of “Construction Scheduling, Principles and Practices” and acclaimed construction management expert, will cover scheduling systems, preparation and analysis, a case study on scheduling and an explanation of Critical Path Method.
- Construction Documentation: Chris Anzidei, law offices of Christopher Anzidei, PLLC, will cover the importance of construction documentation to several aspects of contract administration, including notice requirements for change orders, scheduling and delay provisions, bonds and liens, design claims, differing site conditions, acceleration claims, impact claims and others.
- Management/Leadership & Resource Management: Dr. Jim Gelatt, the University of Maryland University College director of Interdisciplinary Studies in Management Track and author of three books on management, will discuss how to efficiently and effectively use your organization's resources. He will also examine several leadership and management styles, including but not limited to, building consensus, conflict resolution, negotiation techniques on the jobsite, conducting effective meetings, managing subcontractors, employee appraisal, principles of resource control and jobsite pitfalls of resource control.
- Economics of Safety: ARTBA’s Senior Vice President of Safety & Education Brad Sant will discuss safety duties and responsibilities for managers, accident costs and impact, experience modification rate, insurance, compliance with healthy and safety regulations, hazard control and pre-planning, evaluating sub-contractors safety performance, behavior safety process and safety case studies.
Sessions on “Client Relations” and “Industry Ethics” will also taught by leading industry experts.
The April 9-11 P6 Scheduling Academy will provide in-depth instruction on Primavera Project Planner (P6) software and other “tricks of the trade” to help efficiently track key project aspects, such as people, materials, operational benchmarks and payment schedules. This unique program uses hands-on and effective training designed specifically to help industry professionals adapt the P6 software to their own needs. Dr. Newitt will also guide students through the complex principles of Critical Path Method scheduling, which can help with timing and resource allocation during the delivery of complex transportation construction projects.
There are three registration options: PMA is $1,999 for ARTBA members ($2,499 for non-members), P6 Scheduling Academy is $1,700 for ARTBA members ($1,999 for non-members), or register for both and ARTBA members and non-members will pay $2,699 and $3,199 respectively.
Both academies are sponsored by the ARTBA Foundation’s educational arm, the “Transportation Builder Institute,” allowing attendees earn up-to 32 Professional Development Hours.
