Used Equipment Prices Now 4% Higher Than Previous Peak in 2007

March used equipment prices increased 0.6% from February values, according to the April Rouse Rental Report. This is 4.2% higher than the prior peak period in April 2007, and 52.1% higher than prior trough period in June 2009.

Viewed another way, the March Rouse Value Index for used equipment prices is now at 45.1, up from 43.3 in April 2007 and 29.7 in June 2009. The Rouse Value Index measures the average Orderly Liquidation Values for benchmark models across 14 major rental category indices on a monthly basis.

Also in the April report, March auction sales of rental and construction equipment tracked by Rouse averaged 5.4% higher than Rouse February Forced Liquidation Values (FLV). Rouse recorded 5,080 units that sold at 36 separate auction sales conducted across North America. The units represented a combined FLV (as of February 28) of $126.4 million and generated $133.3 million of gross auction proceeds.

When it comes to rental rates, Rouse reports January saw an average 0.1% increase in achieved rental rates for rental companies participating in the Rouse Analytics Rental Metrics Benchmark Service. Rates are up 4.5% relative to January 2013 and up 23% relative to January 2011. January physical utilization is down 2.8% from December.
