CeraTech's Sustainable Cement Reduces Concrete Water Demands by 50%

CeraTech, a producer of durable, high performance, and lowest carbon footprint cement for "green" concrete, announced a program to focus attention on the water conservation benefits of its cement technology.

The company explained that CERATECH Cement reduces the amount of water used in concrete by 50 percent or more. Third-party validated and published in CeraTech's ekkomaxx concrete Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), the independent findings show un-paralleled water savings when compared to ordinary portland cement concretes. In addition to water savings, other environmental advantages are significant, specifically in terms of eliminating CO2, preserving virgin resources, and ozone depletion/climate change.

Lionel Lemay, Senior Vice President of Sustainable Development for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA), states, "One of the concrete industry's five key areas of sustainable measurements for concrete is on water reduction." He went on to explain, "NRMCA supports innovative technologies such as those advanced by CeraTech in helping meet aggressive targets for water and carbon reductions, among other environmental impacts identified in their Environmental Product Declaration."

Concrete is the most used building material in the world. "We have a solution that offers extraordinary environmental benefits, provides far more durability, and can be put into use immediately," according to Mark Wasilko, CeraTech's Executive Vice President. "Our cement technology will enable contractors, architects, engineers, and most importantly communities, to realize tremendous water savings with every cubic yard of concrete that is placed. If just 10 percent of the approximately 48 million cubic yards of concrete used annually in Texas were replaced, the state would save more than 72 million gallons of fresh water every year. A ten percent utilization rate across the United States would save the country more than 500 million gallons of water annually," Wasilko explained.

The program focuses on "Environmentally Responsible Concrete Construction." CeraTech intends to raise awareness about the benefits of a more sustainable concrete construction alternative. New technology briefings and interactive web content are designed to educate engineering/design firms, architects, contractors, and developers about the environmental benefits of using a non-portland cement to realize both unparalleled water savings and carbon emission reductions.
