
CFA Announces Basement of the Year Awards
The Concrete Foundations Association (CFA) has named the winners in its annual Basement of the Year competition. The Pritt Residence, an entry in the "single-family >5,000 sq. ft." category, achieved the highest ranking in the competition and was selected "most visually intimidating" by more than 50 percent of voters.
Foundation contractor Ekedal Masonry and Concrete Inc. of Newport Beach, Calif., completed this 50,000-sq.-ft., two-story basement using 3,879 yds. of concrete and 215 tons of steel in the walls. The job spanned 780 lineal ft. with wall heights ranging from 4 ft. to 45 ft. and wall thicknesses ranging from 8 in. to 36 in.

Decorative Concrete Institute expands
Bob Harris, president of the Decorative Concrete Institute, takes his training expertise beyond the Institute's Temple, Ga., headquarters by expanding the organization with Decorative Concrete Institute - West Coast Division in Phoenix, Ariz., and Decorative Concrete Institute - Europe Division in France. Multiquip helps combat theft
Multiquip Inc. will register equipment that it sells with the National Equipment Register (NER) to help its customers combat equipment theft. NER is a database company dedicated to helping equipment owners deter theft and recover stolen equipment by helping law enforcement to identify a machine and its owner and helping anyone buying used equipment to avoid purchasing stolen equipment.
