CFA honors leading companies

The Concrete Foundations Association has recognized two companies with awards.

Bontrager Concrete Specialties, Inc., of Nappanee, Ind., has been named Contractor of the Year. The award recognizes an individual or company who exemplifies the ideals, goals and standards of the CFA.

Balmer Brothers Concrete Work, Inc. of Akron, Pa., was voted winner of the CFA's 2005 Basement of the Year by attendees at the World of Concrete in Las Vegas. Second place went to Wall Builders, Inc., Dalton, Ga., and third place to Epp Concrete Construction, Lincoln, Neb.

Both awards will be presented at the CFA Annual Summer Meeting in July in San Francisco.

New book available

Concrete Floors and Moisture, a new book from the Portland Cement Association, explores how to prevent unwanted mold and moisture in concrete floors.

The book discusses sources of moisture, drying of concrete, methods of measuring moisture, construction practices, specifications and responsibilities for successful floor projects. Excessive moisture in concrete floors can lead to problems such as deterioration and debonding of floor coverings, trip-and-fall hazards, microbial growth and staining.
