8th Annual Pavement Maintenance Show Wows Contractors - National Pavement Expo West 2008

Attendees explore National Pavement Expo West 2008.
Salsco Cobra Curbing Machine
Salsco Inc.'s self-propelled Cobra Curbing machine has a 5 3/4-cu.-ft. hopper, nine wheels for stability, and operates at 24 feet per minute.
Elgin Megawind
Elgin Sweeper's Megawind is a combination sweeper, leaf vac, and catch basin cleaner with hopper capacities of 10, 13 or 16 yards. A robotic arm positions a 12-in.- diameter catch basin hose.
Ray-O-Lite Pavement Markers
Ray-O-Lite's AA (All Acrylic) raised pavement markers (above)feature a rib-and-fishhook design to help the fill adhere to the shell. A brow protects the top of the lens from deterioration.
KM International LB2-16
KM International's 4-ft. x 4-ft. LB2-16 infrared asphalt recycler (right) offers a single operator two independent 8-sq.-ft. zones or 16-sq.-ft. of infrared heating.
Python PHP 5000
Two contractors get up close and personal with the PHP 5000 asphalt patching machine from Python Mfg. Featuring a 5-ton hopper, the 5000 can patch an average pothole in two minutes.
Western Colloid
Western Colloid showcased its asphalt-based pavement sealers, including Tar Top premium sealer and its Armor Top top-of-the-line sealer.
Newstripe Rollmaster 5000
Newstripe featured stencils and its Rollmaster 5000, which applies paint to pavement via a roller instead of a spray.
Billy Goat Force Blower
In addition to its Force blower, Billy Goat Industries showcased the Grazor which cleans cracks at 5 ft. per 15 seconds.

There's no question the current economic situation had an impact on the 8th Annual National Pavement Expo West event, held Nov. 20-22 in Las Vegas, but that didn't dent the enthusiasm of the contractors who attended.

NPE West Show Manager Loretta Miles said trade shows in just about every industry are feeling the economic heat, and NPE West was no different.

"This is a rough economy to ask people to drive or fly to spend money, even if it is to help them improve their business," Miles said. "But despite all that, word of mouth from the conference program and even the exhibit floor was very positive, and we're looking forward to NPE 2009 in Charlotte and being back in Las Vegas again in December 2009."

"Our seminar attendance was down but that didn't affect the overall quality of our program," says Allan Heydorn, Conference Coordinator for NPE West. "According to seminar evaluations 95% of the contractors said the seminars fulfilled their expectations, and that's a number that's been consistent over the years, and it's a level of success we're very proud of."
