From the cab of Marini's MP1300 cold milling planer contractors could see how the operator has a perfect vantage point to perform detailed milling, including curb reveal work.
Calder Brothers displayed its new Silver 16 Screed, a 15½-foot screed designed with a single slide mechanism as well as the recently redesigned Mauldin 1550-C paver, featuring the Freedom Four Screed, four-auger feed system, and heated screed extensions.
Graco reintroduced several striper models, including the LineLazer 3400 and the LineLazer IV Series, all with several updates and new features for increased production and operator ease. Graco also showed off the FieldLazer, a walk-behind, airless striper for sports field marking.
Gehl Company introduced contractors to the versatility of its line of compact track loaders, including the Model CTL 80, which boasts a 10,692 lb. operating capacity, a 22-cu.-ft. bucket with universal quick-attach, and a 93-½ in. dump height.
In addition to displaying its 3020 and 3120 asphalt pavers and its walk-behind asphalt plates, Ingersoll-Rand Equipment exhibited its lines of vibratory asphalt rollers.
Seal-Rite used National Pavement Expo in Atlanta to debut a unique mesh on its filter baskets that will reduce the frequency that an operator will have to clean his filter basket.
Contractors could get a good look at Little Wonder's walk-behind blowers and also view the brand new high-performance vacuum.
Stone Construction Equipment displayed a variety of its compaction offerings, including its 4-cycle Stompers and several models from the Stone Silver Fox series of forward plates. This line consists of eight models, including a plate designed specifically for asphalt - the SFA3500.
As usual LeeBoy showcased its variety of construction equipment, including the 685B motor grader, which features an articulated frame, a 10-ft. sliding moldboard, and a 15,200-lb. operating capacity.
Contractors visiting the Tymco booth could see three examples of the line of regenerative air sweepers including the newest addition to the Tymco line, the Model 435, with a 4-cu.-yd. hopper and 72-in. dump height, the Model 210 parking lot unit, and the Model 600.
About 2,200 attendees packed the aisles at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, GA, for the 20th anniversary of National Pavement Expo. Upon entering the exhibit hall, show goers' eyes were drawn toward the towering Marini MP 1300 cold planer milling machine at the Bomag Americas booth.
"This was the first time in years contractors were able to see a milling machine on the floor, and it attracted the attention you would expect from paving contractors," said Loretta Miles, show manager. "At our annual Advisory Board lunch the milling machine was a hot topic, and board members said they expected even larger equipment on the floor next year."
Attendees also got a great look at hundreds of other pieces of equipment from all areas of pavement maintenance and reconstruction during two and a half days of exhibits. Miles said increased attendance and strong sales on the show floor helped make the 20th anniversary National Pavement Expo a success.
On the floor
Many companies chose NPE to introduce updates and new equipment at the show.
Equipt Mfg. debuted several updates and additions to its sealcoating machines that emphasize the company's "push on safety." In addition to former safety offerings, Equipt machines are now available with safety strobes, a back-up alarm, safety cones and holder, and a water jug. The control panels were also relocated to the curb side of the machine to keep operators out of the street.
Billy Goat Industries had on hand its recently introduced QB1601 walk-behind blower, available in self-propelled or push models. Just like the smaller horsepower blowers in the Quiet Blower series, this 16-hp model features a nylon fan for quiet operation.
