United Rentals acquires HSS RentX branches

United Rentals recently announced it has acquired all remaining HSS RentX branch locations in Colorado. HSS RentX, the American operation of British-based rental company HSS Hire Service Group Ltd., has a total of 14 operating rental locations in the state. Total revenues of the acquired branches were approximately $9 million for the past 12 months.

Robert Krause, vice president-northwest region for United Rentals, said, "With the acquisition of the HSS RentX branch network in Colorado, we have more than doubled our footprint in a vibrant construction market and substantially expanded our service to customers in this state. Colorado’s thriving economy and long-term construction forecast support strong demand for our equipment rentals, new equipment sales and contractor supplies."

Stone receives healthy workplace award

Stone Construction Equipment Inc. has been recognized as the winner of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award by the New York State Psychological Association. The specific award is the For Profit Small Company category. It recognizes companies that create programs and maintain an environment that promotes a psychologically healthy workplace.

Lynne Woodworth, president and CEO, said on making the award announcement to the employees, "Our culture of trust, respect, communication and development, along with the highly participatory environment we foster, were the key influencers in being chosen. The judges who visited us were blown away by our environment, our culture, our people and the uniqueness of how we do what we do."

In other news at Stone, the company was predominantly featured in a new book from Harvard Business School Press titled, "Equity: Why Employee Ownership is Good for Business."The book discusses Stone’s success as a 100-percent employee-owned (ESOP) company and features quotes from various Stone employee-owners throughout.
