Along with engines certified as meeting U.S. EPA Tier 4 Interim and EU Stage IIIB emissions standards, the new 950K, 962K, 966K, 972K and 980K wheel loaders from Caterpillar replace their H Series predecessors with features that improve their productivity and their fuel efficiency. New Performance-Series buckets are standard, and they're designed to be easier and faster to load with longer floors, wider mouths and convex sideboards for better load retention. Torque converters have been optimized to put more pile-penetrating push behind the buckets, and a lock-up torque converter is now an option to boost the 980K's efficiency. A seat-mounted electro-hydraulic implement joystick eases the operator's workload and integrates 3rd and 4th auxiliary controls. New electro-hydraulic joystick steering system on the 966K, 972K and 980K senses ground speed and applies feedback force through the stick proportional with speed for more precise, safe steering at speed.
