The new Cat 272D skid steer and 299D compact track loader are joined by high-performance counterparts, the 272D XHP and 299D XHP, which are the largest, most powerful skid steer and compact track loaders Caterpillar has built. The electronically controlled Cat C3.8 engine, which meets EPA Tier 4 Interim and European Stage IIIB emissions standards, is equipped with the Cat NOx Reduction System.

Specs: Cat 299D Compact Track Loader

Net power for the 272D and 299D is up 5 percent, from 90 to 95 hp, and peak torque is increased by 14 percent. A 23-gpm auxiliary hydraulic system allows efficient use of a range of work tools. The optional 32-gpm High Flow XPS system, operating at 4,061 psi, yields heavy-duty performance and increased productivity.

Rated operating capacity for the 272D is 3,200 lbs., and for the 299D it is 2,975 lbs. at 35 percent of tipping load. Capacity for the 299D rated at 50 percent of tipping load is 4,250 lbs. An optional counterweight kit increases rated operating capacity of these machines to 3,450 lbs. and 4,500 lbs., respectively. Operating weights are 8,404 lbs. and 10,866 lbs., respectively.

Larger lift cylinders on all four new D Series models provide a 19-percent boost in lifting force, compared with C Series models.

Caterpillar introduces the new “Intelligent Leveling” system (ILEV) with the D Series skid steers. The ILEV -- Intelligent Leveling system (ILEV) -- enables three industry exclusive features: Electronic Dual Self Level, Work Tool Return to Dig and Work Tool Positioner.

  1. The industry-first Electronic Dual Self Level levels the load when raising and lowering. The new electronic system uses no hydraulic valves, lines or connectors.
  2. The Work Tool Return-to-Dig feature automatically lowers the lift arms and returns the work tool to a preset angle, increasing productivity and decreasing cycle times.
  3. The Work Tool Positioner automatically returns the work tool to a preset angle, increasing productivity and quality by allowing the work tool (cold planer, forks, trencher, wheel saw, etc.) to be returned to a preset angle, even after the machine has been repositioned.

The 272D XHP and 299D XHP high-flow models make 106 hp and 277 lbs.-ft. peak torque. Rated operating capacity is 3,600 lbs. for the 272D XHP and 3,185 lbs. for the 299D XHP at 35 percent of tipping load. Operating weight for the 272D XHP is 9,304 lbs. and 11,647 lbs. for the 299D XHP. Hydraulic systems deliver 40 gpm of flow at 4,061 psi, producing 94 hydraulic horsepower.

Standard features on the 272D XHP and 299D XHP models include cab with air conditioning, air-ride seat, Cat's Advanced Machine Information and Control System (AMICS) and speed-sensitive ride control.

In the cab of D Series models is a new dial-type hand throttle, and electronic throttle pedal that provides the industry's only decel feature when the hand throttle is set to high idle.

Cat offers an electrically activated quick coupler that replaces the previously used hydraulically actuated coupler. The electric coupler is simpler in design and eliminates hydraulic lines, connectors and valves.

Redesigned air-intake flow path adds efficiency, and a dealer-installed pre-cleaner kit is available.
