The Astec Universal Concrete Plant features 'Continuous Blending' which allows proportioning one material in three bins. Instead of mass batching in a normal plant and dealing with segregation in each load, the one material is proportioned 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 in the three bins, which Astec says reduces segregation by at least 33%. The result is reduced cement demand while achieving density on the grade.
Cement usage is further reduced by precision water control and the advantage of averaging the gradation variations by using multiple bins to proportion the same single coarse aggregate. It's a process Astec has trademarked as "Calibrated Concrete."
Astec formed its Concrete Equipment Group to offer a complete line of portable and stationary plants and components for production of roller compacted and conventional concrete. In response to interest in its Universal Concrete Plant, Astec recently added new regional sales managers. World of Concrete 2012 will be the first for the newly expanded Astec Concrete Equipment sales force.
