Studies prove rumble strips effective
Rumble strips on roadway shoulders and centerlines are effective in reducing accidents according to two state studies reported by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
FHWA reports that rumble strips on shoulders reduced single-vehicle run-off-road crashes by 13%, according to a study of two-lane rural highways in Minnesota.
Also, a Delaware DOT study found that centerline rumble strips reduced head-on collisions by 90% - despite a 30% increase in traffic flow.
