The 2.8-ton 283Z compact excavator extends Gehl's existing zero tailswing product range in the lower weight category. Its superstructure rotates entirely within the tracks, enabling it to operate close to walls and obstructions without risk of contact. An optional 250-lb. rear weight can be added to further increase stability with no tail projection.

A side-mounted 20.4-hp Yanmar diesel engine and rear-mounted hydraulic tank and fuel tank allow for more space and legroom for the operator. Cabs come standard with heater/defroster, interior light, windshield wiper and washer system and the ability to open the cab windows for natural ventilation. A canopy is also available.

A narrow 11.8-in. track width and 3.8-psi ground pressure allow for improved traction and increased track service life.
