Michelin's XDR2 tire is designed in a 27R49 size for rigid dump trucks in severe mining and quarry applications with up to 20% more tread life than its predecessor, the XDR. Introduced at CONEXPO-CON/AGG, the XDR2. Additional sizes will be available later in 2011. The XDR2 also has 10% thicker undertread between the tire's plies and tread base for better cut and impact resistance. The new self-cleaning tread pattern combines full-depth blocks, a 13% larger central lug (compared to the XDR) and a non-directional design to provide increased protection against aggressions and cut separations. The evolving tread design provides an increased contact patch as the tire wears, while sculptured cooling vents help keep running temperatures low.
Michelin’s C2 casing technology helps keep operating temperature down to maximize the potential life of the tire without compromising operating speed or load capacity. Compared to the XDR tire, the steel protective plies are 60% stronger to shield the tire against aggressions and separations. Sidewalls are twice as thick as the previous generation to resist cuts and abrasions.
Michelin says the XDR2 uses nearly 10% less material than the leading competitive 49-inch tire. Reduced material means less to recycle, and the lighter tire weight that reduces fuel consumption.
