MI Plans $187 Million in Detroit-Metro Road Work

Fiscal 2013 plan will improve 80 miles of pavement and repair 15 bridges in the MDOT Metro Region

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will award $187 million in contracts in fiscal 2013 to improve 80 miles of pavement and repair 15 bridges in the MDOT Metro Region. The Metro Region serves four counties - Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Wayne - which account for about 40 percent of all traffic in Michigan.

The Metro Region 2013 program will provide roughly $142 million for pavement repair and roughly $45 million to upgrade bridges to good condition.

"Our 2013 program focuses on stretching our dwindling funds to best preserve our vital roads and bridges," said Metro Region Engineer Tony Kratofil. "We do this by using proven asset management strategies to ensure that we continue to provide the greatest return on tax payers' investments."
