The American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) is now accepting nominations for the 2013 “Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards” and the “Contractor Safety Awards,” which recognize outstanding efforts of public and private-sector organizations involved in building the U.S. transportation network.

The “Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards” honor programs to reduce roadway work zone construction accidents, injuries, and fatalities in three categories: outreach campaigns, training programs, and innovations in technology. The competition is open to all interested individuals and organizations. An independent panel of judges will evaluate the entries and select winners.

The “Contractor Safety Awards” recognize industry firms that implement outstanding employee health and safety programs. The awards were developed to promote worker safety and health as core values of the transportation design and construction industry. ARTBA members in the Contractors Division can apply for recognition in one of three categories, based on number of employee hours worked during the previous year: 1,000,001 or more; 500,001-1,000,000, or 500,000 or fewer. First tier qualification is based on a contractor’s OSHA Recordable Rate; the benchmark is below 4.6. Finalists will be invited to make a presentation before the ARTBA Safety and Insurance Committee September 8 at the association’s National Convention in Milwaukee, Wis.

Winners of both awards will be recognized at a special September 9 “ARTBA Foundation Awards Luncheon” the following day.

Applications are available here and must be received by August 2. Email ARTBA’s Holly DiGangi or call 202-289-4434  with questions.
