A Marine Corps Veteran who served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom will soon be moving from Spartanburg, SC, to a new home in Denver, NC, thanks to the efforts of Purple Heart Homes, volunteering organizations like Doosan Portable Power, and community members who have come together to create a community of new homes for service-disabled Veterans.

On Friday, July 12, members of the Doosan Portable Power team donned tool belts and picked up paint brushes to help build a home for an eight-year service Veteran, his wife and their four children as part of an ongoing effort by Purple Heart Homes to provide service-disabled Veterans and their families with customized homes that best fit their needs. The team spent the day removing sheet rock, sanding particles and paste, painting the interior and helping hang siding.

Amy Meadows, Doosan Portable Power marketing communications specialist, organized the Doosan Portable Power team participation, spurred by her personal connection with families of Veterans. “My husband is a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, and every day, I’m amazed by the sacrifice military families throughout our country make,” Meadows said. “Organizations like Purple Heart Homes make an incredible impact on these families — letting them know their sacrifices are recognized, their service is appreciated, and that as a community, we’re grateful. We were absolutely honored to be a part of this effort.”

“The community support we receive from organizations like Doosan Portable Power is helping us make a positive impact on the lives of service-disabled Veterans and their families," said Dale Beatty, Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran and co-founder of Purple Heart Homes. “To date, 26 families have been able to move into homes that are helping provide a healthier foundation for their futures.”
