Homes for Our Troops and Volvo Rents Provide Veterans with ‘Homes for the Holidays’

With the help of Volvo Rents, Homes for Our Troops will be delivering homes in California, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Michigan

Just in time for the season, Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) is giving new meaning to the phrase, "home for the holidays." From Dec. 2-21, the national non-profit will be delivering 12 brand new custom homes to severely injured veterans in eight states across the country.

With the help of Volvo Rents, Homes for Our Troops will be delivering homes in California, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Michigan. At each location, Homes for Our Troops will host a Key Ceremony, presenting the veteran and their families with the keys to their brand new custom home at absolutely no cost to them.

“Since launching our initiative in 2004, it has been our mission to do whatever we can to ease and improve the lives of those who have selflessly sacrificed for our country since September 11, 2001,” said Major General Timothy P. McHale, president of Homes for Our Troops. “Year round, it is incredible to see the outpour of support through donations and volunteers from local communities and neighbors to big national corporations and organizations. It is because of these individuals that we’re able to do what we do, and provide homes for the holidays to our injured servicemen and women.”

Featuring nearly 2,700 square feet of living space, the homes feature open floor plans with wide hallways and doorways to easily move from room to room. The kitchen features roll-under countertops, range, and sink, with pull-down shelving. Bathrooms are fitted with a roll-shower, roll-under vanity, therapeutic tub with grab bars for easy transfer, and an electronic toilet featuring a bidet. The oversized garage is designed to accommodate adapted vehicles.

“Each of these homes has been custom designed to provide the veterans with an ability to live more independently and freely,” said Matt Tavianini, VP of sales & marketing for Volvo Rents. “Since partnering with HFOT in 2007, we have helped build more than 50 custom homes for injured veterans nationwide. We could not be more grateful to be able to give something back to our nation’s heroes and their families. Especially in time for the holiday season, I cannot think of a greater way to say ‘thank you.’”
