Dozens of equipment distributors and dealers are descending on Washington, D.C., this week to educate legislators about crucial industry issues, and you can help from home in one minute.
The Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) and North American Equipment Dealers Association (NAEDA) 2014 Fly-In is focusing legislative attention on issues important to the cost of doing business for contractors and other businesses.
Issues such as:
- Balancing the Budget and Reducing the National Debt
- Ensuring Adequate Investments in the Federal Highway Program
- Protecting the Rights of Employers and Employees
- Protecting LIFO
- Expanding Domestic Energy Production
- Restoring Simplicity and Certainty to the Tax Code
- Ensuring Access to Clean Water by Improving the Nation's Water Infrastructure
Fly-In attendees will be briefed by leading members of Congress and Capitol Hill insiders on these issues on Wednesday. On Thursday, participants will meet with lawmakers and congressional staff to help AED move the policy ball in the right direction on infrastructure, tax, and regulatory issues.
The AED Action web site offers concise explanations of how these issues impact equipment and construction businesses, offers quick connections to your elected representatives at the state and federal levels, and suggests wording for letters dealing with each of those issues to encourage elected officials to act in our industry’s favor.
If you can’t be there in person, you can still be there in spirit by using AED’s grassroots action website to send messages your representatives and senators.
Your “real world” messages will help send a clear message to lawmakers that industries associated with construction equipment are a political force to be reckoned with and that there are economic consequences if Congress lets the highway program collapse, repeals tax provisions dealers depend on, or interferes with energy development around the country.
