Aggreko Brings Hybrid Power System 3K to Construction Industry

Aggreko Hps3 K Unit 2

Power generation and HVAC specialty rental company Aggreko, plc has launched the cost and energy-efficient Hybrid Power System 3K (HPS3K) into the construction industry.

The alternating fuel to battery HPS3K is the latest offering in Aggreko’s power automation portfolio of technology applications. Ideal for the construction industry, HPS3k allows onsite generators to switch from their daily high-load power capacity demand to a battery source when lower power requirements are needed to keep jobsite lights, security systems and computers running.

HPS3K eliminates idling, cuts fuel costs by 50%, and reduces emissions, regardless of the fuel source. For one year-long construction project, five Aggreko HPS3K units providing 500 kW of total power delivered $1,500 to $1,600 in fuel savings per week — more than $80,000 in savings in one year.

The application also increases uptime, as it increases reliability with Tier 4 technology and reduces failures associated with overheating and excessive idle time.

“Aggreko’s engineers set out to design a minimal-load demand solution for our industrial customer segment,” said Gordy Broussard, vice president of sales, North America for Aggreko. “The Hybrid Power System 3K is another example of our dedication to finding customers an innovative technology application that significantly reduces costs, while also improving operating efficiencies.”

The HPS3K battery unit requires no maintenance and with its intelligent, fully automated controls and switching, no manual intervention. When the primary generator is switched off, the HPS3K system provides 12.5 hours of a 500-watt load or 2.5 hours of a 3,000-watt load before the inverter charger switches on the main generator for recharging. While recharging, the batteries continue to provide load back-up service as needed.

Aggreko Remote Monitoring (ARM) wireless units are found on all Aggreko generators. The units provide operating parameters to the Remote Operations Center (ROC) where teams of field-experienced engineers and technicians monitor generator performance 24/7 and are ready to respond to potential problems immediately. Performance data, alerts and service information are available to customers via an ARM smartphone app.
