United Rentals’ Dale Asplund will explore what he sees as the enormous untapped opportunity of Big Data at the ALH Conference & Awards (ALH-C&A), being held in Miami, FL October 11 this year.
Asplund, who is chief information officer and senior vice president–business services at United Rentals, will use his presentation - Big Data and the Real-time Rental Experience– to highlight the ways that rental companies can use data to help customers and drive returns.
“The amount of data generated in our industry is enormous. The critical mission of IT is to find ways to leverage big data, to create more automated processes for managing the business. For example, analytics can help determine when to buy or sell assets, from whom to buy those assets, the price to expect when disposing of an asset, and the optimal disposal age.”
Asplund said data presented by advanced algorithms can better inform business decisions in an instant, as opposed to requiring dozens or hundreds of employee hours. “The data may be generated by the rental of an asset, but the ripple effect is far-reaching. By gathering more of this data in real time, you set the stage for a better customer experience, with faster delivery, pickup, repair response and preventative maintenance.”
