Aggreko's modular, mobile power will power its seventh Ryder Cup this fall at the competition in France from Sept. 25-30. A contract is already in place to make it eight in 2022.

We will be on site at the Albatros Course of Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines for up to 6 months, spending 1,441 days on installation, monitoring and decommissioning. This is only the second Ryder Cup to be held in continental Europe and the first since 1997.

In addition to the main event, our 38-strong team, with experience working on the last four European Ryder Cups, will be providing 23 MVA of temporary power via 154km of cable to a series of tournaments in the run-up to The Ryder Cup itself. Our team will be powering all facilities across 6,700-plus meters of the 18-hole course, including catering, hospitality, fan screens and the Grand Stand.

We will also be providing 35 Heat Pump Chillers to allow event structures to be heated or cooled throughout the cycle of a day. This includes heating in the early morning and late afternoon, followed by cooling around late morning through to lunchtime via a mixture of fancoils and air handler units.

In addition, we will install just under 2,000 light fittings throughout the site both in Hospitality and behind the scenes for security and safety.

The tournament sees the holders, the United States, captained by Jim Furyk, travel to Europe for the first time since 2014 to take on Thomas Bjørn’s Europe team. Though defending champions, the United States have lost their last five matches in Europe and have not won there since 1993.

Last year, Aggreko and the European Tour agreed a six-year partnership, making us the European Tour’s temporary power and climate control supplier until 2023. The current contract includes a minimum of 12 tournaments per year between 2017 and 2023, where we will provide related design and project management services. The deal also includes The 2022 Ryder Cup.

We will be powering the required facilities to look after approximately 275,000 spectators during the week of the event, as well as almost 8,000 staff and volunteers and some 2,000 accredited media serving the needs of a global broadcast and online audience.

Robert Wells, MD Events Services, Aggreko, said: “Powering The 2018 Ryder Cup is a real highlight of our work on the European Tour and illustrates our commitment to golfing events.

“We’re proud to continue Aggreko’s successful delivery of the last 7 Ryder Cups and demonstrating our wealth of experience on the European Tour and in events services globally.

“Our involvement so far has already spanned six months, covering site design, setup and delivery. A lot of work goes into providing the necessary power for these events while keeping the courses immaculate, a challenge which we relish.”

Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup Director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Aggreko once again to deliver a premium event in Paris this year.

“Having worked on a wide range of events from the Olympics to Glastonbury, Aggreko is globally renowned for contributing to the success of world-class experiences. We look forward to enhancing the overall spectator experience of The Ryder Cup together.”
