Are You Compliant?
By Rebecca Wasieleski - Friday May 3, 2013One of the questions I often ask contractors is, “What keeps you up at night?” Over the years the answers have changed a little, but the core challenges that trouble many of the contractors I speak with are the economy, increasing profitability, finding and keeping good employees, maintaining a safe work site, and increased regulations. I suspect these issues are the most troubling for contractors because one person cannot control them. Some of these challenges require a team effort, like profitability, employee retention and work site safety. And the economy is simply an uncontrollable beast. I think increasing regulations might be the most frustrating challenge for contractors. Regulations are always changing, always requiring... -
The Goal of Jobsite Safety Is Getting Workers Home at Night
By Rebecca Wasieleski - Tuesday March 12, 2013
Over the last few years, contractors have shared with me a number of stories about the importance of safety. I’ve heard about large general contractors who require minimum EMRs and safety programs from their subcontractors before they will even consider a bid. Rising insurance costs have also been an inspiring factor for some contractors to enhance their safety programs because fewer accidents typically result in lower insurance premiums. Additionally, fewer accidents keeps workers healthy and working at their peak potential on the jobsite. But the prevailing reason why contractors are dedicated to safety is their employees. They want their workers to be safe on the job and want to see them go home at night. Your company’s safety... -
Proper Safety Training Will Help Prevent Electrocutions on Your Jobsites
By Rebecca Wasieleski - Thursday February 28, 2013I recently read an article about a worker fatality in my home state . The leading causes of worker deaths on construction sites can be categories into what OSHA calls the "Fatal Four": Falls – 35% Electrocutions – 9% Struck by Object – 10% Caught-in/between – 3% The Fatal Four were responsible for nearly three out of five... -

By Rebecca Wasieleski - Wednesday November 7, 2012
"Before and after" photos are a great marketing tool. They certainly live up to the old adage "a picture is worth a thousand words." If you're a decorative concrete contractor and you don't have "before and after" examples of your work in your portfolio , you're missing out on a chance to impress your potential clients. Clemons Concrete Coatings certainly understands the importance of "before and after" photos. That's why it's asking contractors to send in their "before and after" project photos for projects on which they utilized a Clemons product. Clemons will then choose several sets of photos to use in their marketing materials. The owner of each photo set used will receive their choice of a free container of one of these Clemons...
