Michael Mahoney is a professional engineer and the director of marketing and technology, fiber reinforced concrete for the Euclid Chemical Company in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a fellow and member of the American Concrete Institute and has served on various committees for the National Pre-Cast Concrete Association and American Society for Testing and Materials. He previously served as chairman for ACI sub-committee 544A on the Production and Applications of Fiber Reinforced Concrete and is also a board member and current president of the Fiber Reinforced Concrete Association. In 1997, he obtained his master’s degree in civil engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, where he helped to develop and patent an innovative synthetic fiber for concrete reinforcement. He has also been involved with precast and pervious concrete projects, structural health monitoring of bridges using non-destructive testing methods and has performed material characterization and testing of concrete and shotcrete mixtures. Mr. Mahoney has co-authored several papers on the subjects of FRC, shotcrete, carbon footprint of fiber materials and innovative bridge systems.
