Wayne Harris, president and CEO of Point-of-Rental Systems, marked his 20th anniversary with the rental management software company on October 11. The milestone was celebrated with cake at the office headquarters in Grand Prairie, TX, and dinner with previous owners, Bob Shaffer and Steve Husbands, whom Harris bought the company from in 2011.

In 1993, Bob Shaffer hired Harris to revamp the company’s aging UNIX-based software. He believed that Harris’s combination of practical rental knowledge and an MIT education uniquely equipped him to build upon Point-of-Rental’s hallmark software designed “by rental people for rental people.” Harris grew up working in his parents’ rental store in Ada, OK, and still uses that insider knowledge to oversee software development that fits the rental industry’s unique needs.

During his tenure, Harris has taken the program through two major revisions, including the move to a Microsoft Windows-based platform in 2001 and then to the Microsoft .NET Framework which was rolled out earlier this year. Harris has seen explosive growth over the past two decades as the 30-year-old company has grown from ninety-nine stores using the software to now over 1600 stores around the world on Point-of-Rental Systems.

After the congratulatory celebration marking the 20-year milestone, Harris stated, “With all the great progress I’ve seen over the last 20 years, I’m looking forward to what the next 20 years holds for our software.”
