Oregon's DOT is ready to launch a trial of the nation's first pay-as-you-drive gas tax alternative. ODOT is looking for about 5,000 driver volunteers to test the program. Volunteers will be able to sign up online for the program, which is scheduled to start July 1, 2015.

The trial program will charge drivers 1.5 center per mile. The trial drivers will get a monthly bill, and ODOT will send rebate checks to offset money spent on the current 30-cents-per-gallon gas tax.
