Construction Contractor Wins Civil Suit Against City of Birmingham

Jury awarded contractor $3.5 million after city terminated him from three major projects in 2013

In 2013, contractor Chris Woods sued the city of Birmingham after he was terminated from three major projects. After a week of testimony, a jury sided with Woods awarding him $3.5 million in damages.

The city claimed Woods failed to meet multiple construction deadlines that resulted in his termination. Woods claimed when the city took his bond money away it hurt his ability to win other public projects.

Birmingham City Attorney Ralph Cook says the city plans to "pursue other options to address the verdict and/or obtain a reversal."
