KDOT Releases RFQ for JOCO Gateway Design-Build Project

KDOT will select a shortlist of qualified teams for its first design-build project -- the I-435/I-35/K-10 interchange Phase 2 -- by May 8, 2013

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) released the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) March 20 for the Johnson County Gateway: the I-435/I-35/K-10 Interchange Phase 2 Project.

The RFQ is available at: http://www.jocogateway.com

Prospective design-build teams must submit their Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) by April 17, 2013. KDOT will evaluate the SOQs and announce a shortlist of up to four teams on May 8.

Burt Morey, project manager for KDOTs first design-build project, explained that given the interchange’s importance to Johnson County and Kansas, KDOT has decided to use an innovative process known as design-build to complete the project more quickly and to maximize the value of the $250 million investment by Kansas taxpayers.

Construction will take place between 2014 and 2017.
