The U.S. Department of Transportation announced plans to award a $75-million grant to help pay for a 24-mile extension of Metrolink commuter rail to the Riverside County city of Perris, Calif. Extending the line is projected to cost $248 million, with about another $63 million coming from the U.S. DOT.
