OneC1TY, a healthcare- and technology-focused community under construction on 18.7 acres near Nashville, Tenn., will include a mini retail district made from 21 shipping containers. It’s the first time in the market containers have been repurposed for such use.

The 8-ft. x 40-ft. containers will be used to create 12,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor retail and event space which is being called C1TYblox at a cost of about $2 million. Containers will sit on concrete piers, leaving space underneath foundations for installation of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC equipment.

C1TYblox should be completed by year’s end. Local contractor The Carter Group is handling construction.
