Bill to End Seattle's 'Big Dig' Project Dies One Day After Proposal

Proposed legislation was to stop all funding on the "big dig" project and repair of the Bertha tunnel-boring machine

Sens. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale, and Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane proposed new legislation on Monday that called for a stop all spending on Seattle's "big dig" and repair of the Bertha tunnel-boring machine. The bill also called for studies on how to rebuild or retrofit the viaduct.

However, the bill has died only one day after its proposal. Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima, chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, said the bill would not receive a hearing or move forward.
