According to an article from New York YIMBY, at 1,795 feet, the Nordstrom Tower at 217 West 57th Street in New York City is set become the tallest building in NYC, the United States and the Western Hemisphere. New plans for the tower have its spire increased 20 feet making it 19 feet higher than One World Trade Center's beacon. The Nordstrom Tower's parapet was also increased nearly 52 feet to 1,530 feet.

However, developer Extell Development told the New York Post the tower will stop one foot shorter than One World Trade Center's height, out of respect. According to Gary Barnett, head of Extell, plans were for the building to top out at 1,775 feet including its spire. But Barnett also said he could not comment on what the final building will be.

Concrete for the tower's foundation has been pouring for months now, but it will likely take another several months before construction of the skyscraper climbs above street level. The tower plans to open in 2018.
