Louisiana Fails to Approve Legislation Changing Control Over Construction Spending

Decisions over which construction projects should get lines of credit remains with state's governor

After senators refused to go along with changes the House sought to give lawmakers more control over how the state prioritizes its construction dollars efforts to change power over construction spending fell apart in the final days of the legislative session. For the upcoming budget year, power to choose which projects should get lines of credit remains with Governor Bobby Jindal.

Many lawmakers, even those who rejected proposals to change the process, say the current system allows governors to trade projects for votes on other pieces of legislation.
