Construction industry conglomerate KBR (NYSE: KBR) announced Tuesday that it sold the KBR Builder Group to global construction firm Pernix Group Inc. of Lombard, IL, in a deal valued at $28 million.
KBR bought the KBR Builder Group from BE&K and rebranded the company in 2008 in a deal that was valued at that time at $550 million.
Pernix will rename the Birmingham, AL,-based company BE&K Building Group, reviving the identity the group operated under before the KBR acquisition.
BE&K Building Group’s headquarters will remain in Greenville, SC. The company also maintains full-service regional operations in Charleston, SC; Research Triangle Park, NC; Washington, DC; and Houston, TX. BE&K Building Group has consistently ranked as one of the Southeast’s leading contractors for the past four decades.
