The Association of Equipment Management Professionals named two exemplary construction-equipment operations the 2013 Fleet Masters at its annual meeting.

Bechtel Equipment Operation was given the private-sector honor, and Manatee County Fleet Services took home the public-sector award. Bob Hall, General Operation Manager, and Ken Burke, CEM, Service Operation Manager of Bechtel Equipment Operations Inc. accepted the award on behalf of their team. Accepting the honor on behalf of the Manatee County Fleet Services team was Fleet Manager Mike Brennan, CEM.

Each year at the Management Conference and Annual Meeting, AEMP and Construction Equipment magazine acknowledge two outstanding fleets with the honor of Fleet Master, one each in both the public and private sector. In its tenth consecutive year, the Fleet Masters award recognizes equipment professionals who demonstrate excellence in meeting the unique challenges inherent to delivering cost-effective and cutting-edge management of mixed fleets of on-road and off-road equipment.

For the private fleets, Bechtel exemplified the attributes of an AEMP Fleet Master. Bechtel’s “zero accidents” philosophy is reflected in their safety performance around the world. It’s common for Bechtel projects to achieve millions of job hours without a lost-time accident, and many projects pas 10, 20, even 30 million safe hours.

Bechtel has approximately 51,000 employees of 113 nationalities worldwide. Their 114 years in construction has found them named as ENR’s largest U.S. contractor for the last 14 years.

Also no strangers to accolades, Manatee County Fleet Services displayed impressive employee training and education. The team collectively boasts 206 ASE certification, along with many other specialized training certifications from OEM’s. Additionally, Manatee exhibited superior resource skills through utilization and benchmarking. Finally, Manatee set themselves apart by acquiring and maintaining an impressive selection of electric, hybrid and alternate-fueled vehicles.
