Caterpillar brought a new brilliance to the millennia-old Chinese lantern festival in the remote Yuhu Village, 7,900 ft. up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Lanterns symbolize prosperity and good fortune in China, and every year, people throughout the country gather to light them in celebration of the beginning of spring. Keeping that tradition alive was challenging in Yuhu, in China’s mountainous southwestern Yunnan Province, where most of the village’s 380 families had indoor power but limited outside electricity.
Caterpillar dispatched a 252,000-watt generator set up the winding mountain road, and organized villagers to hang 8,840 lanterns and string them together with almost 7.5 miles of wire.
Catch a bit of a bigger, brighter lantern festival reflected in the faces of China’s Yuhu Village in Lantern Festival, the latest installment of Caterpillar’s #BuiltForIt video series.
