Bertha Could Resume Tunneling Alaskan Way Viaduct in August

Repairs to the boring machine's cutter head are expected to start in May

If repairs to the tunneling machine Bertha continue as Seattle Tunnel Partners hope, the machine could be back in service and tunneling the Alaskan Way Viaduct come August. Plans are to raise the cutter head to the surface in March, replace the damaged seals in May and restart tunneling in August.
